Glowing/hot-wire based test
The glowing/hot-wired test is used to characterise the flammability of plastics.
For this purpose, a heated wire with a specific temperature is brought into contact with the surface of a sample during a defined time interval. It is determined whether the material ignites within a defined period of time. Furthermore, it is observed whether any flame that develops goes out again or whether the plastic drips.
Technical equipment
- Glow wire tester GPG from the company Wazau
- Experiments at room temperature
- Glow wire temperature up to 960 °C
Sample preparation
- Preparation of samples from components or test plates
- Cleaning of the test specimen surfaces if required
