Determination of thermal conductivity with the heat flow meter

In this method, the thermal conductivity is determined on a plate-shaped test specimen located between a cooling plate and a heating plate.
The temperature difference of both plate surfaces on the test specimen and the heat flux density through the heat flux measuring plate in the cooling plate below are measured.
This method is only suitable for materials that have a thermal conductivity < 2.5 W/(Km).

Sample preparation

  • Conditioning of the samples until the mass is constant
    (mass change < 0.1 %)

Test conditions

  • Temperature range from 10 °C to 90 °C
  • Sample dimensions: min. 120 mm x 120 mm, max. 270 mm x 270 mm
  • Sample thickness: max. 50 mm
